Las Barrancas is run by Curtis Clogston—multi-instrumentalist (dobro, steel guitar), recording and mix engineer, and photographer. Curtis has instrumental and recording credits as a member of the Multi-Grammy winning band Asleep at the Wheel, as well as with Willi Carlisle, Georgia Parker, and Katie Shore, among many others.
Las Barrancas is a mix of three factors: a creativity supporting space, time-tested recording methods, and modern technology. It has been our home since the 1980s and it feels like it, but over the years it's been outfitted with proper acoustic treatment, a pristine audio front end, and up to date software and hardware. Multiple rooms are available for tracking with separation, including a high ceilinged living room and the primary tracking room, each large enough to accommodate a full band.
We like to make records that sound like a real space and a point in time. We LOVE to track live and leave some grit in when appropriate, but the setup is perfect for overdub sessions as well.
Las Barrancas also makes an unbeatable writing retreat where the studio can be used on an as-needed basis for demos.

Video here is generally handheld, single-camera documentation of live performances—nothing overly produced, just good-looking footage with vibe.
Photo and video services are available as part of recording sessions or standalone. Digital capture with a film-inspired look is standard. Film photography is available for an additional cost.
Engineering a session and shooting it at the same time doesn't always work, but outside engineers, photographers, or videographers can be brought in as needed.
Las Barrancas sleeps 10+ across several bedrooms (some with single beds, some with two), a guest house, an Airstream, and a few couches and daybeds for overflow. There's a full kitchen, common areas for writing or just hanging out, and outdoor space all over the property.
Meals can be arranged on-site so you don't have to think about it. Dietary stuff gets handled—just let us know.
The residential setup means you can work late, start early, or take a break in the middle of the day without losing momentum. A lot of folks find the retreat environment makes for a better record.
Las Barrancas is a family home turned studio, sitting on property that backs up to the Guadalupe River in the Texas hill country. The land has butterfly gardens, hiking trails, native juniper and oak trees, and enough room to spread out or disappear for a while.
